Hi friends,
With things more or less back to normal, many films are now going straight back to theaters, which is good for moviegoers! And the movie and theater industries in general. But not-so-great for streaming fans and homebodies like myself. While we wait for some of the buzzier movies to go online, though, it’s good to remember that a lot of amazing stories can be found in TV, which is pretty up there with movies in terms of storytelling (despite what some big stars say about it).
As usual, I hope you have a good weekend!
OUR TOP TV SHOW OF THE WEEK
Clark
On Netflix 🍅 rating: 80%
With the current deluge of biopics streaming, it’s easy to overlook Clark, Netflix’s fictionalized take on Clark Olofssonm, from whom the term “Stockholm Syndrome” was coined. Bill Skarsgård, Hollywood’s favorite onscreen creep, returns to his native Sweden and plays the titular criminal. Skarsgård plays him with such feverish passion, it’s impossible to take your eyes off the screen.
The delirious editing (bordering on excess or camp, depending on your taste) also makes it quite the standout among all the sober real-life adaptations. Clark will surely be hit-or-miss for most people, but I for one found its riskiness and colorfulness refreshing to watch.
