Dear friends,
Are you watching more movies or shows these days? Since the confinement started I’ve been craving movies much more. Shows, when watched the way I watch them (obsessively), feel like they’ll only make me feel worse about staying at home.
In the case that you’ve also been seeking more movies, here are three excellent dramas now streaming.
3 movies, 1 on Netflix and 2 on Amazon Prime.
King Jack
Now on Netflix. 🍅 rating: 94%.
This small movie set over one summer weekend is a tender and affecting coming-of-age drama.
Jack is a bullied adolescent who lives in a run-down small town. When his aunt falls sick, he has to take care of his cousin, a younger and even more vulnerable kid. Their relationship evolves in this sensitive drama that spans a quick hour and 15 minutes.
The Whistleblower
On Amazon Prime. 🍅 rating: 75%.
Based on a true story, The Whistleblower is the biography of a Nebraskan police officer who volunteers for the U.N. peacekeeping mission in post-war Bosnia.
She uncovers a human trafficking scandal involving peacekeeping officials and finds herself alone against a hostile system in a devastated country. Rachel Weisz plays the whistleblower in a powerful lead role.
What Maisie Knew
On Amazon Prime. 🍅 rating: 86%.
A rock singer (played by Julianne Moore) and an art dealer (Steve Coogan) start a battle for the custody of their daughter, Maisie, mainly to spite each other. When one of them marries, the other rushes a marriage as well.
What Maisie Knew is about how the daughter is impacted by this conflict. Written by two writers, directed by two directors, and sporting an excellent cast, What Masie Knew perfectly portrays its complex subject matter, giving an honest, bitter portrayal of dysfunctional families.
That’s it for today, I hope one of these is for you.
