Dear friends,
Today’s movie is from Antonio Campos, the director of Christine, a previous newsletter pick (#59). If you did watch Christine, the true story of the first-ever televised suicide, you can probably guess just how bleak The Devil All the Time will be.
The Devil All the Time
New today on Netflix.
Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, and Bill Skarsgård star in this haunting psychological thriller produced by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Set mostly in the 1960s, it’s about a town called Knockemstiff in Ohio whose characters — a preacher, a war hero, and others — all lead grim, intertwining lives, full of misfortune. The center of the story and of the misfortune is their interpretations of their faith.

Antonio Campos’s Christine with Rebecca Hall is still on Netflix.
Afterschool, another on-brand film from Campos, stars Ezra Miller as a high-schooler who films the death of two of his classmates. It’s also on Netflix.
Talk on Friday,
Bilal
