Dear friends,
It’s very difficult for me to hide my appreciation for Shia Laboeuf - in case you haven’t noticed, he was also the star of the last mid-week movie pick, American Honey - but for a long time, I had to. For a long time, he was either getting arrested, publically, or making public “art” (he once got arrested while making art, which is so Shia).
But it seems that I don’t have to hide my fandom any longer (read: I don’t have to, but also, it overwhelms me). Shia LaBeouf is good, and the times when it was embarrassing to be his fan, those times are over.
The Peanut Butter Falcon
New on Amazon Prime U.S. this week.
This buddies-on-the-road drama was the highest-grossing independent film of 2019, which tells you everything you need to know about it: it’s familiar, but it’s not overblown.
A fisherman (my man Shia) has to flee after vandalizing the property of a rival fishing group who bully him. On the way, he meets a man with Down syndrome, who, unexpectedly, is on a journey to become a pro wrestler.

Another Shia Laboeuf movie… just kidding.
Cloudburst on Amazon Prime is a lovely Canadian movie about two women who escape their nursing home in the U.S. and go on a road trip to Canada to get married.Possibly the most original road movie ever created, Wristcutters - A Love Story is a 2006 comedy now streaming on Amazon Prime about a road trip that takes place in an afterlife made up only of people who committed suicide.
Talk on Friday,
