New on Netflix π rating: -
This drama from Mexico will be the countryβs official entry to the upcoming Oscars, it has also won the Special Mention at the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. The story follows two girls who grow up in a remote village in the State of Guerrero.
The beautiful mountainous setting of the little town is offset by a lack of opportunities, as well as the constant fear of drug lords and human traffickers. The men of the town have almost all left to pursue jobs elsewhere, so the women and their children are left to congregate in the only hill with service to reach them. More crucially, the women are left to fend for themselves. This drama, based on a book by the same name, is about what it means to grow up as a girl in this context.
